Wisconsin Senate votes to overturn Governor’s statewide masks mandate


Wisconsin’s state Senate rebuked Gov. Tony Evers Tuesday, voting 18-13 to repeal his statewide masks mandate that has been in place because the summer season amid coronavirus considerations.

Two Republicans joined all the chamber’s Democrats in a failed effort to vote down the decision, and almost two dozen well being care teams, together with the Wisconsin Medical Society, had lobbied in opposition to it, arguing in favor of masks till the COVID-19 vaccines are broadly administered.

“This isn’t about whether or not face masks are good or unhealthy,” Republican state Sen. Steve Nass, stated earlier than the vote. “That is about repeatedly issuing emergency orders opposite to what the regulation permits.”

Nass, who wrote the decision, added that, “It’s in regards to the rule of regulation.”


The masks mandate can be going through a problem within the state’s Supreme Courtroom, and Republican critics have argued that Evers overstepped the authority of his emergency powers by repeatedly extending it.
