HONOLULU (KITV) – Alohilani Resort in Waikiki now offers guests a personal concierge to navigate Hawaii’s pre-trip test program.

Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association CEO Mufi Hannemann called that program on Thursday a possible blue print to resume tourism.

The Mayor of Honolulu, Rick Blangiardi, signed the program and added another idea that he hopes will help our economy.

“If there is a complaint, we continue to hear that it is sometimes difficult for people to get the test verified within 72 hours,” Hannemann said.

Alohilani’s concierge program is run by the Hawaii-based V2 Medical Group, where travelers hike through test protocols, including uploading test results before setting off for the islands.

Kelly Sanders, Senior Vice President of Hawaii Operations for Alohilani’s parent company, Highgate Hotels, said that Hawaii tourists in December show that their biggest concern is navigating restrictions.

“Making sure you got the results was that a lot of anxiety was building up if you were to go to the airport and you still did not have your results and you get on a plane just hoping the test comes,” Sanders said.

Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi approves the plan.

“What we are looking for here is to be able to bring our tourists and not make them the dreaded source if you want to spread the disease that is the playoffs here,” said Mayor Blangiardi.

He also suggested that one of his ideas may soon need to be approved by Governor David Ige.

The mayor wants to open bars again.

“After talking to many bar owners, they have really gotten on their knees. It has been very punitive. I want to believe the people who want to keep these companies keep them open serve the public that they will follow the things we ask them to do that we can move forward with having places to go to entertain themselves and feel good about life, said Mayor Blangiardi.

Mayor Blangiardi also wants team sports to be resumed for training, but not games yet.

Any of these changes require Governor Ige to log off, because it’s a change in O’Ahu’s split recovery plan.
