Huskers travels to East Lansing for the Big Ten Tri-Meet

Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska Women’s Gymnastics Team will travel to East Lansing, Michigan for a three-to-ten conference tri-meeting with Michigan State and Ohio State. The Huskers, Spartans and Buckeyes will meet at Jenison Field House on Saturday, January 30 at 1 p.m. The meeting is streamed on BTN +.

The Huskers last took on Penn State on the road last Saturday, where they took home their first win of the season in a hard-fought victory. Nebraska surpassed the Nittany Lions by a score of 195,250-195,100. NOW led by a beam trio of Kynsee Roby, Makayla Curtis and Kaitlyn Higgins, who all took home part of the event’s title in the final rotation.

Ohio State lost its first two meetings of the season against Michigan and Iowa and looks to pick up this year’s first win. Michigan State has not yet competed in 2021, as its first meeting against Maryland last weekend was postponed.

Nebraska was originally scheduled to face only Michigan State on Saturday. However, due to a change in the Ohio State schedule, the Buckeyes were added to the meeting, raising stakes for the event.

NOW looks to build on the drive it gained from its near-victory last week and leave Jenison Field House with two major Big Ten Conference wins.

After the Huskers meeting in East Lansing, Nebraska returns home to the Bob Devaney Sports Center for a match against the Rutgers on February 7 at 7 p.m. 16.00 CT.

SCOUTING MICHIGAN STATE
Michigan State has not yet competed in 2021, as a meeting between Spartans and Maryland was postponed last week. MSU is the last program in the Big Ten Conference that has not yet competed this season. Beginner Baleigh Garcia and sophomore Nyah Smith were named Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch before the season, and MSU will lean on them during this year’s first meeting.

SCOUTING OHIO STATE
Ohio State is participating in this meeting as the number 26 program in the nation on the Road To Nationals rankings. The Buckeyes opened their season strongly against Michigan and suffered a tough loss with a score of 197,225-196,000. OSU fought in its second meeting of the year against Iowa and lost by the score of 196,550-193,800. The Buckeyes look set to bounce back with victories over two conference foes on Saturday.

NEBRASKA GOES WEEK THREE RANKED NO. 33
Huskers enters this meeting in Michigan State as the No. 33 program in the country, according to the Road To Nationals ranking. NOW bounced back from a difficult first meeting with a much stronger performance in week two. Nebraska looks set to ride the wave of momentum that enters this week’s tri-meeting.

ROBY RANKED NO. 21 ON THE BALANCE BELM
Senior Kynsee Roby, after stardom performances against Illinois and Penn State, ranks 21st in the nation on the apparatus. Roby won at least a share of the title in Nebraska’s first two meetings and looks to build on the strong foundation she has laid so far in 2021.

YOUTH SHINES FOR NOW early in the season
The Nebraska rookies performed well in the first two weeks of the season, and the Huskers will rely on them to continue their development in this weekend’s tri-meeting. Chloe Lorange competed again in the all-round against Penn State, while Kinsey Davis and Danielle Press provided crucial depth for NOW.

NOW RANKED THIRD ON BIG TEN CONSTITUTION
The Huskers enter the 2021 season as the 3rd ranked team in the Big Ten Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Michigan and Minnesota claimed the top two spots in the poll, while Iowa and Illinois rounded out the top five.

GREAT SERVICE SCHEME 2021
The Big Ten Conference announced that its members will be attending a conference-only season. Week one of the season for Nebraska will serve as a conference meeting against the Big Ten enemy Illinois. Weeks 2-7 will serve as the big ten regular seasons, where the big ten champions in the regular season will be crowned at the Big Five meeting. Week eight and nine include non-conference meetings against Big Ten opponents.

ROBY, DAVIS NAMED GYMNASTS TO WATCH
The conference announced that senior Kynsee Roby and beginners Kinsey Davis was chosen as Nebraska’s top ten women’s gymnasts to watch for the 2021 season.

JUST
Huskers returns home to Bob Devaney Sports Center for another Big Ten Conference match with Rutgers. NOW and the Scarlet Knights meet on February 7 at 4 p.m.

ROSTER OUTLOOK
Huskers welcomes back three seniors for the 2021 season. Makayla Curtis, Anika Dujakovich and Kynsee Roby will serve as veteran leader of the program. The lone junior in the Huskers squad is a newcomer Kaitlyn Higgins, who began his career in Minnesota and will lay depth for NOW on beams and floors.

Nebraska’s sophomore class consists of Clara Colombo, Kathryn Thaler and Kylie Piringer. Piringer seems to be building on the strong foundation she laid during her rookie campaign after being named a second team All-Big Ten selection after the 2020 season. Heather Brink also welcomes six beginners, Martina Comin, Kinsey Davis, Joanne De Jesus-Cortes, ChloĆ© Lorange, Danielle Press and Caroline Williams.

REMEMBER INTRODUCES FIVE 2021 SIGNEES
Head coach Heather Brink announced the signing of five future Husker gymnasts who joined the 2021 women’s gymnastics signing course. Ayzhia Hall (Fayetteville, AR), Emma Simpton (Dallas, Texas), Halle Rourke (Waverly, Neb.), Savanah Warren (Parker, CO) and Emma Spence (Cambridge, Ontario) will join NU’s program for season 2021-22.

CORNHUSKERS REPRESENTS THE UNITED STATES AND OUTSIDE
Nebraska has gymnasts from six states: Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, North Carolina, New Jersey and Texas. Huskers also has three international gymnasts, Clara Colombo and Martina Comin Italy and ChloƩ Lorange in Canada.
