It’s optimistic that Harry Kane’s recent foot injuries are not as serious who previously suffered from the Tottenham Hotspur striker.

The club is waiting for the swelling to subside in both ankles, after Kane was forced off during Thursday’s defeat at home to Liverpool, before undergoing scans.

The best case scenario is that Kane can be out for as little as two weeks – with a manager Jose Mourinho has predicted “a few weeks” when he describes him as “irreplaceable”.

Kane is perceived to have much less pain than he suffered in damaging ankle ligaments in the past, with a lower degree of injury predicted, and is believed to be positive about returning to action quickly.

Kane was substituted during the 3-1 loss after rolling his right ankle in a tackle from Thiago Alcantara and then landed uncomfortably on his left ankle after a challenge from Jordan Henderson. He continued but was uncomfortable and was replaced at half time.

“Harry Kane is Harry Kane, there are some players in some teams who cannot be replaced,” said Mourinho. “But one thing is to have, as last season, three or four attacking players who are all injured at the same time. Because we have Carlos Vinicius, Steven Bergwijn, Lucas Moura, Erik Lamela and Gareth Bale. It’s a different situation because we have attacking players. ”

Even though Kane is only out for two weeks, the calendar is overloaded that he will miss a number of matches including the league matches against Brighton, Chelsea, West Brom, the FA Cup fifth round away to Everton and probably the league match in Manchester City.

It is understood that the injury feels different from the previous foot injury that Kane has suffered which saw him ruled out for six weeks between January and February 2019 and put out ten matches in 2016. He also had ankle problems in March 2017 and March 2018 and April 2019, when he missed nine games, threatening his chances of playing in the Champions League final.

The injury could provide an opportunity for Bale, in particular – although Mourinho added that the Real Madrid borrower did not see himself as a key striker. “It’s a crucial moment for Gareth, he’s feeling better and better,” said Mourinho. “And, of course, when you lose a player of Harry’s quality and dimension, the other guys have to take the plunge. And hopefully he can. [But] I do not think Gareth likes to play as a striker. When he joined us he was very objective towards me by saying that he does not feel that he is a leftist as he was before, he does not feel that he is a No. 10 as he was before as well. The position he likes to play is the position where we play him every minute we give him, which is the right side of the attack. “

Spurs are also set to be without Sergio Reguilon for about a month after injuring a hamster while the club would penalize Serge Aurier who left the arena after being substituted at half-time for Liverpool.

It remains to be seen whether Kane’s injury will affect Dele Alli’s chances of leaving Spurs on loan to Paris Saint-Germain. Mourinho has said he believes Alli will stay – as will PSG – although the England international is desperately pushing for a step ahead of Monday’s deadline, hoping chairman Daniel Levy will lower his demands.
